本系列图谱主要描述了类似于骨折、脱位、骨破坏等疾病X线表现的骨骼肌肉系统正常变异的X线表现，对于区分骨骼软组织病变与正常变异有十分重要的指导意义。本图谱是由弗吉利亚州医科大学著名的放射学家Theodore E. Keats和Mark W.Anderson教授在前面八版的基础上进一步整理编著而成。一方面添加了很多更新的正常变异的X表现或是选用更好的图片加以解释说明 ，另外一方面，对一些重复或是意义不大的病例进行精简。与前面的几版相比，本图谱更加精致实用，便于临床使用。
本图谱共包括两部分，即骨骼组织部分和软组织部分。前者包括头颅骨、颌面骨、脊柱、骨盆、肩带骨、上肢骨及下肢骨等七个章节，每一章节除了在本图谱中有详细介绍外，在网上点击“expertconsult.com”都可以进行相应搜索来查找其补充内容。为方便携带与使用，软组织部分的内容均补充至以上网址。本图谱在每个章节中详细描绘了与骨科常见病及多发病有相似X线表现的骨骼结构正常变异的X线表现，内容全面，图片典型，对于临床上相关骨科疾病的诊断与鉴别诊断有重要的指导意义。如骨骼叠加后的X线影与骨折或骨增生异常等病理改变的X线影便不易进行区分。
