The authors of this study analyzed treatment and outcomes for 20,600 patients with early Hodgkin’s lymphoma using the National Cancer Data Base. The proportion of patients receiving chemoradiotherapy vs chemotherapy declined from 59% in 2003 to 45% in 2011. Uninsured patients were less likely to receive combined-modality therapy. Chemoradiotherapy was associated with better overall survival (HR, 0.62), and this difference remained after adjusting for potential confounders.

The authors urge the oncology community to think twice before abandoning radiotherapy in this setting.
